Ok it is 8:00 am est. Saddam Hussein is on trail! YEE HAW! Let us all hope it is speedy and fair and let justice be done. You don't want to know what my idea of justice is for this "man". I will leave justice to the people of Iraq.
The shockwaves this trial is sending to other despot Arab regimes is enormous. Many must be wondering "am I next?" Hold your thobes and grab you socks boys you just might be. I truly sense the ground moving in the region. Change is happening though not as fast as many would like and too fast for others. Whatever side you fall on the train of reform has left the station and it isn't coming back. What I have witnessed in the region in the last 5 years is astonishing. People are speaking about against their own governments and living to tell about it. Sometimes it seems like it is one step forward and two steps back but the underlying issue is people are gaining the strength to raise their voices as individuals and as a collective unit. It is truly a beautifully thing to witness. The slow birth of true freedom.
Often other people who are citizens of nations who are "democratic" don't fully understand the price paid by the generations before them. In this sense I urge us all to take a step back and ponder for a second just how good we have it and remember those who are trying to cut their own path to a Democratic form of government.
