TOODY'S IS COMING BACK TO WAKEFIELD!

Several months ago I posted this.. Concerning my experience at the restaurant that took over when Toody's sold out. The response I got varied from the sublime to the raving rants of pubescent teenagers all lathered up with hormonal sweat of what "Hot and Sexy" Wakefield football player worked there. Like anyone besides local High School teenagers would or should care. I want good food. Period... End of discussion!

Yes it is true....TOODY'S is making a comeback in Wakefield. The old Daddy's Donuts in Wakefield, just before or after the Rail Road tracks (depending on your heading!) has a sign stating it is to become the FUTURE HOME of the reborn TOODY'S!! My prayers have been answered.. GOOD NEWS! GOOD NEWS! Even better there will now be PARKING!!!!

This news is wonderful to say the least and lets loose a much deserved smack in the face to the people who bought out the original Toody's to begin with. And boy did they try hard to destroy what 50 plus years of good food and service created!

If anyone know when the official GRAND OPENING is going to be please let me know. I want to be one of the FIRST in line! I would also like to interview someone from Toody's on what it is like have a LANDMARK resturant rise from the ashes like a PHOENIX. I can taste the meatballs and sauce right now...... Please hurry and get the dors open!

CIAO and CHOW!

Like to smack someone in the face?
Stop by... Sounds good on a computer screen but can you hold up to your words face to face?

O please spare me your diatribe. I don't know anyone from Toody's. What I do know is whoever bought them out RUINED it.

In fact I tried the new place again and it still left a bad taste in my mouth. So much so this SUNDAY I think I will call and ZING the place on the Resturaunt Show on WRKO AM 680. How is that for a SMACK in THE FACE?

Don't make threats you can't back up pal.

Toody's was never bought out!

All that was bought was a building!

Just trying to say get your facts strait before your make a comment, thats all!

No threats to be made here pal!

But if there were a threat... I allways back up what I say!

No, Toody's was never bought out and no one claimed it was, yet the sign remained which does lead to implications of it being the same establishment. It was sad that we had to lose it, I am MORE than grateful for its return but it is not necessary to compare the two restaurants. They are two separate establishments, and let's face it...there is no comparison.

WHEN WILL THIS END!?!?!?

The "Toodys" sign... at first was there in respect of what had been!

But over time it was very clear it had to go. But due to town laws and all that fun stuff it has remained!

NOT BY CHOICE!

Dettorre's and The new Toody's are too different establishments catering to much different customers!

Best of luck to both establishments!

I agree, that we have two establishments and I wish the both well. But I am very happy to see the return of Toody's. What I think would be the Most Respectful thing the owner of Dettorre's could offer... would be to return the Toody's sign to Richie Canto to be "proudly" hung on the new building. It would be like a memorial to "Toody"

PS. I want to make it clear that this is not the same "Anonymous" from the other recent posts on this blog.

Anon. Thanks for stopping by. You though concerning the sign would be nice. Hopefully Mr. Canto will agree to do an interview with this blog and one of the questions I will ask is why the sign remained. The sign can make one wonder just what is going on.

If you have the opportunity to interview Mr. Canto, also see if you can include his wife and children. I know first hand that his youngest daughter has a "passion" for her Grandparents business and has high hopes and goals to expand the Toody's name...

Richie Canto and his wife and children are wonderful people. Just wait to you see how the atmosphere of the reborn Toody's is... If he does as good as a job as they did in the Haverhill location, you will be pleasantly surprised and gratefull. The Haverhill restaurant had a lot of charm to it and the food was as good as I remember it was when "Old Man Toody" ran the place. The location simply was not right. Wakefield is HOME to Toody's and any expansion from there will be welcomed. The only one wish I have for Toody's is for them to go back to the Crusty Bread like they had years ago, when Frank's bakery next door used to make it for them.

I rode by the Old Toody's location this am and noticed the Toody's sign has been removed and replaced with a new sign for the current establishment. I was hoping to see the Toody's sign on the old Daddy's Donuts building, but it was not.. (as of yet anyways) Still no sign to alert us to when they are opening.. :-(

I have been eating at toody's since I was 12. Worked for our local family contruction business, nothing was better than taking the lunch order.......
I have driven for lunch there with co-workers and friends from bedford, lynn, billerica, nashua, lowell. No distance is too far.

I have frozen and fed-x a shell and meatball dinner to indiana. I have hand carried 1/2 dozen cheese steaks (WITH, or course) to portland oregon.

It may not be fancy but its hard to beat.

My Favorites:
#1) meatball
#2) steak "with"
#3) Italian

I once took a kis there after 1 month of talking about how great it was. I talked him all through the options, and how he might want to go about his first trip there....When i ever placed his order as "i'll have a small "regular" sub, I almost left him there.

I heard from someone that thet read end of september in the daily item.

I went today and it was PACKED and Phone ringing off the wall! I love how they made it look similiar to the orginal Toody's but with a a bit more modern flair to it. The pictures of Toody and his Wife on the Menu board are a real nice touch....

Well, i went and tried the cheese steak (with) and a meatball. Steak was the same, but it needed more sauce.........The meatballs were great, but either a little too soft, or they broke them up too much in the roll....Still on the list is an italian w/everything and a shell and MB dinner (WOW $7.50 now !!!)

I wouldn't make any negative comments about the prices... They are still reasonable and as we all know the costs of EVERYTHING have gone up. That building cost him a Pretty Penny and it's going to take TON's of MeatBalls and Cutlets to make that business profitable.

The cheese steak only went up 0.50 cents, but the shell dinner w/mb went up 2 bucks.......A little too steep perhaps

Toody's closed at 3PM on it's first day because they ran out of food. Closed at 6 the second day because they ran out of food. Sounds like everyone just couldn't wait to try the new Toody's again.

I felt the pain of the new Toody's yesterday, again. I drive from billerica to go at lunch.

You would never know ritchie ever had a similar business before opening this store.

There was a line out the door, and only 1 register open. The other was simply idle as if no one to operate it.

The woman running the open register was barely faster than she was on opening monday, always being helped/distracted by the other lady helping to pull the food.

People were leaving the line and exiting the building !!

Finally, I got to the register nearly 15 minutes later, ordered a shell & meat ball dinner, and a cheese steak.

After 5 minutes I noticed a dinner on a tray, figured I would be up momentarily...well had to wait another 3-4 minutes before a nice lady called my number....Now it was slightly cooled off...and no cheese steak, she said that would be a few more minutes..5 later, it finally came.

nearly 25 minutes from when I arrive to getting food. ITS A LUNCH SPOT, and who has that kind of time to waste?

WOW they have issues that should not be there for a seasoned veteran like them !!

Lastly, the MB's are too small as you would need at least 3 to = the 2, and the 7.50 shell dinner price just is not worth it.

If someone knows ritchie, they should tell him to work the front like his old man did, its the only way to stay in touch.

Also, get people up front who understand the meaning of "pulling the line", or he is gonna lose his old customer base quickly.

Ya got to keep in mind a few things... 1. Although Richie did own/operate another store in Haverhill, it was NEVER on the scale of volume of the original Toody's on it's slowest day. Richie's family/children that are now working in the new store, were not veterans of the original store, so with the acception of Richie who grew up with Toody's and was always in the back and not in the front line... is in a learning mode himself. Unfortunatly the new hires that had never worked at Toody's just may not be the right people and it's gonna take everyone a lot of trial and error to get it right again. I think we need to cut them some slack as this store settles down to normal volume... Let's face it, they are experiencing hugh customer volumes right now, which goes to show you HOW MUCH TOODY's WAS MISSED! Speaking of which... is ANYONE going to the "other" place now?

Me and my better half went to Toody's today for a mid afternoon "SNACK". The place was PACKED, yet from order to pick up of our food was less than 10 mins. A reasonable time I feel considering how busy the place was.

It is obvious Richie and the gang are still working on getting the "kinks" out and I have no doubt he will have the place running in tip top order very soon.

I plan on going back for lunch on Monday! Can't wait!

Well, I just returned from a Friday lunch experience at Toody's. It was just like old times... Food and service was as I remember and expected. Volume of the store was very busy and far more organized then it was on the first day they opened. I Had the opportunity to speak with Richie for a few and commended him on the new restaurant. He did his father PROUD! Now that I've been there twice I really had the sense I was "Home at Toody's" It really captures the look and feel of the orginal with a classy updated twist. Nice job!

PS. Good to see Richie's Aunt Margie still working after all these years. She is a "fixture" of Toody's in her own right!

I had the experience to visit "Toody's" on Saturday 11/4 at about 1:00. I finally got a parking spot and then endured the 20 minute wait in line. I then realized just how ignorant the workers at "Toody's" really are. After my nice wait in line, I ordered my food only to find out that they were out of eggplant, the one thing I was bringing home for my wife. I said "out of egplant at 1:00...maybe you should put up a sign" and left with nothing.

Friday 11/10: My pregnant wife wants Toody's. So as I'm leaving Danvers I tell her to call and order. I call back in 5 minutes and she tells me the line was busy, I tell her keep trying. 5 more minutes...still busy.....5 more...still busy, by now I'm finally parked at Toody's. I wait again in line for 15 minutes and finally place my order. No pork cutlets she says...I step out of line and call home...get me a large eggplant sub...so I get back in line and try to do it again...sorry no sub rolls and no eggplant. "You have to be kidding me" HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A GOD DAMN HANDWRITTEN SIGN" To make matters worse I now jump on 95 to head home to New Hampshire to see a parking lot. By the time I make it to Danvers it is almost an hour and a half since I left work and still no food.

Toody's management should go back to the customer service class they obviously missed. I wouldn't eat Toodys again if it was free. I'm just curious why the phone was busy for so long (ordering more rolls? eggplant ? or calling the bank to see how much the take was for the week), why they can't take 2 seconds to put up a sign when they run out of something......IGNORANT....Whats next no sauce....this is like McDonald's running out of hamburgers.

Oh by the way, for those of you that end up empty at Toody's....I found a great place with great food just down on Lowell St. Sub Stop...they have food and good service...worth a try

This is my blog and I will "diss" who I want, when I want and how I want. Period. It is rather arrogant of you to try and tell me how I should write things on MY BLOG. If you want to sing the praises of Dettorres open yourself a blogger account and have at it. No one is stopping you. You should PROBABLY do it anonymously as well. After all you cliam to work for Toody's. I am sure Richie will get kick out of it. If you need help opening a blogger account I will be happy to help you.

I suggest you read all the Toody's post I have written and then perhpas you can begin to grasp from where I am coming from concerning that SHITHOLE resteraunt named Dettorres in Wakefield.

They are some of the ruddest people I have ever encountered and the food is slightly better than LOW GRADE DOG FOOD. Poor service and poor food equals one SHITHOLE in my book. Heck the only thing missing from the places are roaches.
